Oxo Good Grips Come Apart Poultry Shears

The Oxo poultry shears are a spring loaded shears that are good value for for the price they sell. They trim and cut poultry really well. The overall quality is more than good and the easy of use and price really recommends them.

The blades are made of hardened stainless steel. They have a curve tapered shape to ease reaching to hard places. The blades contrary to the majority of other brands are serrated. That could be a problem while cutting skin, however as long as you use the front end of the shears to cut the skin they cut it nicely, not for the impatient though. Besides, the shears come with a blade notch in one of the blades to hold the bones while cutting
.

The handle of these Oxo shears is an interesting one. On one hand, the grip is soft and comfortable. They have a loop and a bolster to keep your hand from slipping forward while cutting. This is important because you can loose leverage while cutting through bones if your hand slips too much forward.  They are good overall, but of course not perfect. One possible problem is the come apart mechanism. If you lost your grip, then the shears can fly open almost at 90º degree and came apart. That is something to think of, if you have small hands, it can be annoying.

As usual, hand washing is recommended. It doesn't matter that they come apart, if you don't want them  becoming dull in no time, then don't put them in a dishwasher! Perhaps, the best is to wash them with warm soapy water and dry them promptly.

One possible weak point of the Oxo poultry shears could be to be the spring. It seems flimsy at the eye. Searching through the web, I found one reviewer who claimed that the spring broke after only one month of use. Others seem to be ok. So I am putting it as a lemon for the time being.
